"Tyrannical Love"

If anyone has seen any of the films at the NZ Intl Film Festival, you should have seen Tyrannical Love. Its a great movie! Ok so I'm a little biased cos I was on the crew, but what the heck, I'm still proud of it :-) You just can't beat a film made for the price of less than a used car, that makes it into an intl festival, hehe. Bring on the next projects!! (actually there's two in the pipeline, but they're gonna actually need money ... anyone have a rich uncle???)

Here's a lovely pic of some of us at the premiere afterparty, by this stage the drinkin had well and truly been underway, so I'm sure some people are leaning on each other simply for the sake of staying upright ... but it was a good nite :-) Keep an eye out for Tyrannical Love out on dvd at some stage, I'll let you know more info when I have it. "So ...what do u actually do ?"

I've had a few people ask me what I actually do now .... so here's the deal. I left the corporate world of Vodafone last year and studied for a year at South Seas Film and Television School (www.southseas.co.nz) ... majored in Production, Assistant Directing and Floor Managing, and minored in Presenting and Acting. Now I kind of have 4 jobs ... 3 different industries. I'll break it down. If any of it is confusing just ask :-)

1: I'm a production manager for Certain Scenes Productions Limited. (we've just had a feature film in the NZ Intl Film Festival called "Tyrannical Love" ... look out for more to come!)

2: I work freelance in the film and tv industry ... doin whatever it takes to get noticed and work my way up to doing production and assistant directing roles. Recent work includes:
** Set co-ordinator for NZ feature film "The Magician",
** Art Dept for NZ feature film "Tyrannical Love",
** Police Ten7 (I'm a consent former, so I get to chase the cops, get the story, talk to the offenders, victims, etc and get consent forms signed to put them on tv... I love it! hehe),
** I was an audition assistant for NZ Idol2,
** and I also do stuff like production running for music videos, production assist for a feature film funding pilot, cabling for the league awards, production manager for a short film "solicited sin", and heaps more.
** I also do extras/atmosphere work for commercials and music videos occasionally (you know those random people in the background with non-speaking roles, yeah thats me, hehe)

3: I work for 2 diff promotions companies as a casual worker occasionally. That basically involves handing out free stuff. They do promotions like V, Lucid Magazine, H2go, advertising for bars, expo type events, etc.

4: I work part time/casual at First Mobile selling mobile phones in between other work to pay bills. Its my job where if I get film work I can tell my boss I'm not available to be rostered, and if they have times where they need me here full time, I help out as best I can. Its a good little arrangement.

So there it is ... you can email me if you want to know more :-) But yeah lots has changed in the last couple of years, so for some of you this is just an update, and for others you're going "what? did I go to the right website? Is this Mary?".

Speaking of work, I'd better get back to it :-)

I gave in to the blog trend ...

Well I finally gave into the blog phenomenon ... even though I never thought I would. I figure this way people can catch up with what I'm up to whenever they want, but without me having to send a million emails :-) Of course, if you email I'll still reply anyway.
In fact, don't see this as an excuse not to email me and catch up ok ... I'd better still hear from you all!

Over the next few posts I'll give a bit of a blurb on stuff I'm up to these days. I kinda work in 3 different industries at the moment, and so for people who I haven't been in touch with in a while, you'll probably be pretty confused without the next few posts.
